Look, I’m a die-hard theatre kid. I’ve constantly got show-tunes stuck in my head, I’ll often just start randomly dancing out of nowhere, and I have to over-dramatize my stories. But somehow, in 11 years of acting, I have not done a show written by the most famous playwright of all, William Shakespeare. Crazy, considering that he’s so saturated in the theatre. I’ve always wanted to do Shakespeare though, having seen and read several of his plays (especially the tragedies). When we announced that we were doing Shakespeare for the Fall Play, I was chomping at the bit to sign up. I mean, I was chomping at the bit either way, but more vigorously when A Midsummer Night’s Dream was announced. When I first read the script, there were a couple of times where I thought to myself, “What is this guy talking about?” Luckily we had a Shakespeare lingo translator in our Assistant Director Rosemary, who was on hand with the script with translations. We’ve been working on the show for about a month now, and we’ve made great progress. The show has it all. You want classic 70’s dance moves? You got it. You want to laugh at people making an absolute fool of themselves? You got it. You want spirits of nature being pettier than humans? You got it. Come see the show! If you don’t like it? You fell asleep on the way there and dreamed the entire thing.
